MYTH: IT IS OKAY FOR TEACHERS TO TAKE OUT THEIR FRUSTRATIONS AND STRESSES ON THEIR STUDENTS.
FACT: TEACHERS SHOULD DO ALL THEY CAN TO NOT LET EMOTION INTERFERE WITH THEIR CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT.
Too many teachers today run their classes based on the emotion that they are feeling. If they are in a bad mood, the class pays for it. If they are in a good mood, the class has it easy. This kind of approach is a bad idea for many reasons:
*It makes it impossible to have consistency.
*Students undeservedly pay for things that they did not do.
*The teacher gets worn out quickly.
*The teacher loses authority and the respect of the students.
One of the main ideas of my discipline plan is for teachers to be as unemotional as possible when handling behavior problems. Their goal should be to enforce the rules and consequences the same way every day, regardless of their good or bad mood.
