Thoughts about rules with immediate consequences:
*These rules should only be the kind that you notice easily. Make it easy on yourself and make your rules easy to define and catch.
*They should only be things that you care about. Be careful about trying to use rules just because someone else uses them.
*These rules should be for misbehaviors that you want eliminated immediately. If you feel like a student deserves a few warning before being punished for a certain offense then don’t put that rule in this category.
*You should have a “general” type of category that allows you to add something you haven’t thought of on short notice. Do not abuse this one, but leave yourself some wiggle room just in case a student comes up with something that you haven't thought of!
Of course, any rules that are chosen should be done with the purpose of making your classroom the best possible environment for learning. NEXT WEEK: Rules with eventual consequences
