Teachers get burned out all the time. I think that one of the reasons this happens is that a lot of them don't know how to take a break from the job. It consumes them 24/7. I think having a separate life should be one of the number one priorities for teachers from day one.
One step to having a separate life is to live a decent distance away from school.
The farther away you live from school, the less chance you will have of seeing your students everywhere you go. The farther away you live, the less chance you will have running into parents everywhere you go. There is nothing worse than having an impromptu parent meeting at the grocery store.
So, take steps to avoid getting consumed with teaching. Have a separate life. Do everything you can to lower the stress that comes with the job.
Your students will be the ones who benefit.
